    Abstract
R&E Infrastructure is ‘crucial’ for the developments of research and education at national, regional and global levels. National Research and Education Networks are ‘crucial’ for this ‘crucial’. For the last two decades, all efforts have been spent on “Making the Case for NRENs” through lobbying, promoting success stories and user cases and many other activities depending on each country’s requirements. For the time being, there are many observations, global trends, national and regional priorities that include and not limited to the following: • UN SDGs  Science, Research, Education, Community Engagement • Science and Science Diplomacy • Open Science, Open Access, Open Data…. • Science Communities and Communities of Practice • Scientific Computing • Science Collaboration Platforms • Internet Access, Security and Governance NRENs can be a major player in these trends and activities with different kinds of interventions that makes NRENs have a “New Role”. This will help NRENs to make their case by themselves.
